Waterman Logo Design Contest
OCID is excited to announce a logo design contest for 7th graders, inspired by the "Waterman" film and celebrating the life and legacy of Duke Kahanamoku!
Students are invited to create a black-and-white logo that includes the phrase “Lead Like Duke” for the Middle Level Student Leadership (MLSL) Summit 2027.
Consider the following:
How does Duke’s life and legacy model positive leadership traits for today’s youth?
What parts of the film resonated with your own values and beliefs?
Why is it important for student leaders to continue to share Duke’s message with others?
Guidelines
Theme: Lead Like Duke: Celebrating Duke Kahanamoku’s life, legacy and leadership traits
Eligibility: Open to any HIDOE 7th-grade student who has viewed the "Waterman" film. Students must be a 7th grader enrolled in a HIDOE public or charter school for the 2026-2027 SY.
Submission Deadline: Thursday, October 1, 2026 by 4:00pm (HST)

Color: Black and white only
Included the phrase “Lead Like Duke” in the logo design
Format Size:
Digital
Size: 1024 x 1024 pixels
Resolution: at 300 DPI
Format: jpg, png, or pdf
Print
Size: 8.5 x 11 inches
Pen and ink scanned at high resolution
Submission Instructions
A HIDOE sponsoring TEACHER or ADMINISTRATOR must complete this form.
Parents or students may not submit form independently.
Winners:
The Grand Prize Winner’s design will be featured as the official logo for the annual Middle Level Student Leadership (MLSL) Summit.
The student artist will be recognized at the MLSL Summit in March 2027 and receive additional prizes for their school.
